We’re continuing our employee Q&As today with Josh Deering. You’ll find Josh behind our bar, pouring Patriarch, Adelais and your other favorite Idle Hands beers.
How long have you worked at Idle Hands?
I have been an employee since the day the new tap room opened earlier this summer, but I started volunteering bottling beers back in 2014. So while I was not always a paid employee, I have been involved in getting some awesome beer out to public for a few years.
When and how did you first learn about Idle Hands?
It had to have been right around the time the Everett spot opened. I have a group of friends that all keep up on the beer news in and around Boston, and I am sure we went to check Idle Hands out in the weeks after it opened and got a growler filled.
What were you doing before you started working at Idle Hands?
What I do now, producing sports talk radio. I am lucky enough to work in two jobs that don’t really feel like work and I am lucky to be able to do so.
What do you like most about working at Idle Hands (besides the beer)?
I totally wasn’t going to say the beer…
But, it’s the beer…
Other than that, I have to say that it’s great to go to a job where it doesn’t feel like it work. It’s an an awesome family at IHCA.
Favorite Idle Hands beer?
It is between Adelais and Charlton Rouge.
How about your dream 6-pack (with no Idle Hands beers)?
I’m going to do two versions of this, you decide which you like better
Dream 6 Pack
6 Pack That Describes Me as a Drinker
Favorite thing about the new Malden location?
The location itself. Right on the orange line, short walk to downtown Malden. It is close to everything. Also it is right in the middle of a booming community, and every week it is great to see more and more locals come in and dig the beer.
Favorite bar that carries Idle Hands on tap?
Maverick Marketplace in East Boston. Bonus points for being able to walk there. I love what John is doing there, making an awesome neighborhood spot, with great food and amazing local beer. Small draft list, but all of it is local (think Mystic, Bone Up, Castle Island, Slumbrew), and frequently they have Idle Hands on. Great place to grab a beer and sit on the patio.
Who’s your favorite Red Sox player?
Dwight Evans. I grew up loving him as a kid. This is a true story, and you can ask my parents; the first game I went to, I stood on a seat and cheered for Dewey the whole time. Totally an underappreciated player who had a cannon for an arm. Played right field at Fenway better than anyone else.
